Behind the Blog

Hello dear reader & welcome to my blog!

My name is Ashley, and I am the mastermind behind Serendipity Bakes. I am seventeen-years-young, and I reside in a little suburban town in the suburbs of Detroit. Our claim to fame is being the safest city in Michigan, despite our proximity to one of the most dangerous. We are very proud.

This year, I am a senior in high school, which means this chapter in my life is soon coming to an end. I must admit, it is quite bittersweet realizing that I’m soon going to be experiencing my lasts. My last first day of school, my last string camp, my last year in the city I’ve lived in all my life. The list goes on. But amidst all the lasts, I am still experiencing some firsts. For example, this is my first baking blog, and I am incredibly happy about it. Once I get my first car, hopefully I can drive myself to my first job. And next year will be my first time living away from home. Terrified? Yes. Excited? Double yes.

Enough about the murky, confusing, yet exciting future, though. There’s still have a year before I leave, and I fully intend to take advantage of my spacious kitchen while it’s still just downstairs. My foray into baking began with an insatiable sweet tooth. I’d learned long ago that homemade pastries were far superior to the store bought variety, so I took up baking and eventually fell in love. I like to think that it was always in me, that I have a baker’s blood, as my late grandmother (or my wai po) made a mean apple pie. After years of admiring baking blogs such as Sally’s Baking Addition, Joy the Baker, and Broma Bakery, I have finally decided to start my own, and I’m incredibly excited to share it with you all.

Outside of the kitchen, I also love writing, reading, discovering new music, and playing music (I play the piano and violin), and in school, my favorite subjects are Biology, Chemistry, Math, and English. It might seem like my interests are quite varied, but you know what they say: variety is the spice (cabinet) of life! In actuality, I admire many strong women (including, but not limited to, Lady Gaga, JK Rowling, Nicki Minaj, Blair Waldorf, etc.), and I have them to thank for inspiring me everyday.

I also have you to thank for reading thus far. I won’t bore you any longer. I hope you enjoy Serendipity Bakes!
